Indian Army Soon to Have Belgian Malinois, Dog Breed That Helped Kill Osama Bin Laden: Report

a person riding a horse in front of a crowd© Manmath Nayak | India.com News Desk

New Delhi: The Indian Army is going to have Belgian Malinois, the dog breed that helped the US Navy Seal team in tracking and killing former Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden, media reports suggested on Thursday.

According to a news report in The Print, the Army units already have these dogs, and a formal decision is now being taken to ensure more units get these canine soldiers in an institutionalised manner.

The report further stated that the canines will be reportedly used for urban warfare, especially in military operations that require rooms in buildings to be recced or searches to be carried out in jungles or orchards.

These Belgian Malinois are being trained to carry out surveillance of rooms through head-mounted cameras and for scouting in the jungles, report stated.

According to updates, the K9 unit of the ITBP, which patrols high-altitude regions, already has Belgian Malinois in its team. Moreover, the Maharashtra police also has written to the department concerned and the Director-General of Police (DGP) to acquire the Belgian Malinois for Naxal-hit areas

     Become Commercial Pilot

    01

Let’s fly: Everything you need to know to become a pilot

Ahmed Sarwar is a 25-year local who has recently graduated as a pilot from New Zealand. We sat down with him to have a bit of chat about how aspiring pilots can prepare themselves for the profession, and the dos and don'ts of the process.

What are the basic requirements (Physical and academic) to qualify for pilot training?

It depends on which country you're training in. In Bangladesh, I discovered the requirements are high for no apparent reason. Schools such as Galaxy and Arirang require you have an academic background in science. Same in Malaysia. But countries like Australia, New Zealand or the United States require that you be of 16-year-old for PPL (Private Pilot Licence) and 18-year-old for CPL (Commercial Pilot Licence). They also require a minimum educational requirement of O Level but no science background. The entire background thing is completely unnecessary as flying is something you have never learned in your life. It's an entirely different game. It's not like you have to be very good at physics or maths to learn flying. You don't need to be good at maths, you just have to be smart about it. You need to be able to make quick calculations in your head. They teach you everything from scratch.

The physical requirements are quite strong. A PPL Pilot holds a class-2 medical and a CPL Pilot requires class-1 medical which is a bit more restricted. This status has to be renewed every year, by a six-hour-long medical test. The eye checkup itself needs almost two hours. If you wear glasses or contacts, that is not something to worry about as long as you see what they want you to see. There are also ear and lungs checkups, calorie counts and many other tests. If you don't qualify in the test, you lose your license right away no matter how many years you have been in the profession.

How can one join a flying school?

It's a bit harder when you go from Bangladesh to New Zealand. When I went to New Zealand in 2017, there was no proper agency to facilitate the visa process, nor were there any facilities of e-visa. I had to send my passports and other documents to India first for the process to start, as India is the closest embassy for Bangladeshis when it comes to the visa procedures for New Zealand. From contacting the flying school that I wanted to attend to the IELTS exams and other paperwork, I had to do everything on my own. Nowadays there are agencies who can handle these procedures directly, and e-visas make the process easier as well.

The easiest way to enrolling yourself to a flying school is to go to the website and send an e-mail to the designated individual. They usually don't take more than 2 days to reply. They are persistent. I exchanged almost 500 emails till I reached New Zealand.

How much does it cost and how long does it take?

This is a critical question because the costs are not rigid in this case like usual academic costs and tuition fees. In this case, it's of a more practical education than a theoretical one, and that has a lot to do with fuel prices, which fluctuates frequently.

The school I went to gave me an estimated cost of 85 thousand New Zealand dollars in the beginning. When they estimate the costs, they expect you to succeed in every manoeuvre in the first try. There are 10 theoretical courses in the CPL training, which they expect you to pass at one go. But what happens is that we can hardly get it done at one try, so we have to repeat several exercises and courses, and that increases the costs and tuition fees. In Bangladesh, the training doesn't include multi-engine or ILS ratings.

When the trained pilots join Bangladesh Biman or local airlines, they are sent or Dubai or Spain to complete the multi-engine training. But when you join Emirates or Qatar, they want you to have every training and they are not going to pay for it. So I took the multi-engine training which cost me 30 thousand New Zealand dollar and the ILS rating training which cost me 10 thousand New Zealand dollars. I took as many pieces of training as I could because I wanted to aim at the international airlines, like Qatar or Singapore Airlines.

In the beginning, it is assumed that the training will be done in a year, but since a lot depends on the weather, that is not the case. Most flight tests are done visually, so if the weather is slightly adverse, the tests have to be cancelled. Took me two years to complete my training. It depends on the trainee, to be honest. One instructor is assigned to four trainees. If you come home on a vacation, when you go back you have to resume from right where you left the training.

What is the most difficult and/or challenging part of pilot training?

Obviously the actual flying because when we start we are completely new at it. Every manoeuvre comes with a new set of challenges because they make you aware of every emergency that can occur. Some tasks like the spiral dive can be a bit daunting, it might scare you for a while or can even get you sick. In terms of physical training, force landing was the toughest task for me, where the instructor shuts the engine off mid-air and you have to land the aircraft safely no matter where you are.

What is the starting salary of a pilot and what do you think are the best airlines to work for now that you're done with your training?

For Bangladesh, the average starting salary for a pilot is around BDT 1.5-2 lacs as far as I know. By the time you become a captain, it's close to BDT 6-6.5 lacs a month.

When you're in Bangladesh, you need a Bangladeshi flying license to get a job here. But when you're in, suppose, the UK, you'll need a license from there or convert your Bangladeshi license to a UK license. As I just completed my training from New Zealand, I have the license from the New Zealand Civil Aviation. So my first target would be to work for an airlines that is based in New Zealand. If I come back to Bangladesh and start working for Biman, I'll have to convert my New Zealand license to a Bangladeshi one.

Considering the devastating effect pandemic had on the aviation industry, do you think the new pilot will have a difficult time getting a job?

Due to the covid situation, it is difficult to say which airlines will be the best option, as none of them is hiring at the moment. But I think this is the right time to start training because, by the time the training ends, the world might restore some level of normalcy and the airlines would start hiring again.

Aspiring drone pilots get a little help earning their wings

Sarah Macey is the training and operations manager at the Virginia Tech Drone Park. Her driving motivation is to make it easier for students who are interested in drones to explore their curiosity and learn to fly capably and safely. The park’s latest initiative is offering small grants to help students get more serious about drones by bringing them closer to a key certification.

A Remote Pilot Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration is the drone equivalent of a driver’s license. It’s widely known as a Part 107 license — shorthand for 14 CFR Part 107, the federal regulations that cover commercial flights of small drones — and it’s required to fly a drone for business or commercial purposes, nonprofit work, or education. Under Virginia Tech’s drone policy, it’s also required for flights on Virginia Tech property or with aircraft the university owns.

“The Part 107 certificate is necessary for so many things,” Macey said. “One of my goals at the drone park is to look for ways to support students here, both through things like flight training, and education about drones and safety, but also through opportunities that can build their resume and help them in the future, like getting their Part 107.”

The certificate requires passing a knowledge exam that covers basic aviation principles, airspace classification, safety practices, federal regulations for drone use, and how to interpret the cryptic aviation weather reports and dense sectional charts that represent aviator-essential features like topographical information, visual checkpoints, and airspace classes in an intimidating jumble of coded lines and symbols. Tutorials and study guides for all this are widely available online for free; Drone Park staff are happy to help aspiring test takers, too. The test itself, though, costs $160.

Macey didn’t want that fee to be a barrier that kept a dedicated prospective pilot from getting certified. So she decided to start the grant program, which will refund the test fee for 15 undergraduates this spring (as long as they pass the exam by the end of the semester). To apply, students fill out a one-page form that asks why they’re interested, how they plan to use the certification, and how they expect it to advance their career. Applications are due Feb. 19; Macey expects to announce the winners in early March.

The Drone Park is managed by the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science, which joined forces with the College of Engineering and the Office of the Provost to build the unique facility three years ago. At 85 feet high, it’s the tallest drone park in the country. It has more than 3 million cubic feet of flight space. A drone lending library and adjacent lab make it easy for students to practice their skills and work on projects; experienced staff provide training and education.

“Our vision for the Drone Park was that it would become a resource for the whole campus,” said Stefan Duma, the Harry Wyatt Professor of Engineering and ICTAS’ director. “Not just in terms of the physical infrastructure, but also a resource for information and training. Virginia Tech is nationally renowned for its drone research, and the drone park is a conduit for students to tap into that expertise and develop skills they can apply in their own careers. This program is another way we can help create opportunities for the students who are going to shape the evolution of this technology.”

A small cohort of interns help Macey staff the park. Three of them have gotten their Part 107 certificates, and more are studying for the exam now. Macey said that going through the certification process builds the students’ confidence and establishes a foundation of safety and regulatory knowledge that helps them move beyond recreational flying to more sophisticated applications. “They feel like they’ve earned a new level of respect in terms of teaching and talking about the technology,” she said.

One of those interns is Luis Pol, a senior computer science major who had never flown a drone before he started working at the park two and a half years ago on a tip from his roommate. Now, he plans to pursue a career in the drone industry after he graduates and is glad to have the Part 107 certificate on his resume.

It has also allowed him to flex his flying skills beyond the boundaries of the drone park, at the Drillfield, Lane Stadium, and other campus locations. His favorite project, he said, was getting aerial footage of Corps of Cadets training exercises that the cadets could use like game tapes to assess their performance.

“It’s a great way to be involved with different parts of the school and explore more outside your area of expertise,” Pol said of the certificate.

Preparing for the exam typically takes about 20 hours. Pol and two other interns who took the exam with him treated their study sessions as competitions, grilling each other on sectional charts and reciting the NATO phonetic alphabet backwards. All three passed with high scores.

Macey laughs when she remembers her own experience taking the Part 107 exam for the first time a few years ago.

“I didn’t know anyone else who had studied for it or gotten it, and I had no clue what I was doing,” she said. “That’s one of the reasons I’m excited about the program: Not just to help students pay for the test, but also to let them know that there’s a resource to help them study and ask questions, because I would have loved that. One of my goals is to make the process a lot less intimidating and more accessible.”

As for Pol, he just took the recurrent test to renew his certification. What’s his advice for someone preparing for the exam the first time? Study up on those sectional charts, which often pop up in the test questions. “You need to learn how to read a map.”

But mainly, he said, “Don’t be scared.”

The pilots forced to change career completely

a man wearing sunglasses driving a car: Mr Bailey was a commercial pilot for more than 20 years

Mr Bailey was a commercial pilot for more than 20 years

    © Christopher Bailey

As airlines around the world remain grounded due to the coronavirus pandemic, we speak to three pilots who have had to leave the industry and take up completely different jobs.

After two decades as a pilot for travel firm Thomas Cook, Christopher Bailey was left unemployed when the company collapsed in September 2019.

However, he wasn't out of work for long, as a month later Emirates employed him as a pilot of its giant Airbus A380 planes, with a start date of January 2020.

Mr Cook and his family had to quickly relocate from the UK to Dubai.

"We sold everything, the house, the cars, everything - we started a new life out there. It was very exciting and we were loving every minute of it," says Mr Bailey, 44.

But six weeks into his new job, coronavirus wreaked havoc on the aviation industry, with entire fleets of planes grounded by the lockdowns.

"Before we knew it, I was made redundant for a second time," says Mr Bailey. "But this time it was obviously more serious because there were no other jobs available.

"We had to return back to the UK, but we had nowhere to go - it was a stressful situation."

Mr Bailey was let go by Emirates in May of last year. He and his wife had to find their daughter a secondary school back in the UK, and then look for a house nearby.

"We bought a house over the phone from Dubai - we had no other options. We flew back to the UK, and put stuff back in a shipping container in Dubai," he says.

Mr Bailey applied for jobs as a warehouse operative and delivery driver, but didn't hear back from any of the companies.

He suggests that it is difficult for a former pilot to get on the bottom rung of the ladder in a different industry, as employers think he or she is overqualified. And he adds that it is equally tough to get a job higher up the ladder because firms are wary that pilots are not interested in doing the job long term.

However, Mr Bailey, who now lives in Lancashire, did finally manage to find new employment. In October of last year he got a job at a Covid-19 testing site run by security company G4S. Just one month later he was promoted to become a manager at the firm.

"I think my transferrable skills have been recognised - attention to detail, managing big picture situations, and overseeing things from afar, as well as being comfortable with very strict rules and procedures while having to manage a team," he says.

Mr Bailey is one of many pilots around the world who have had to leave the industry since the coronavirus pandemic started. In Europe alone there were some 10,000 unemployed commercial pilots in November, of which 1,600 were in the UK, the British Pilots Association warned.

Stav Nemirovsky was a pilot for Israeli flag carrier El Al for more than four years before flights were grounded in early 2020.

Apart from a number of trips to and from China last May to bring back medical equipment and masks, his work came to a standstill. So in the autumn the 34-year-old decided to leave the industry.

"I was always looking for new challenges, and when this happened it gave me the opportunity to apply for a new job at an IT company," he says.

Mr Nemirovsky was hired as an engineer by Israeli cyber security firm Guardicore, despite not having any prior IT experience.

"I'm doing on-the-job training at the moment - I'm learning from my peers about the technical side of networks and Guardicore's cyber security products. I've got a lot to learn, but I'm confident I can do it."

    a close up of a sign© BBC

New Economy is a new series exploring how businesses, trade, economies and working life are changing fast.

Mr Nemirovsky believes he has several key skills that helped him to get the job, and which also will help him to do well in his new role.

"During the screening process I was able to cope with new material in a short time, and absorb a lot of new information that I wasn't really familiar with," he says.

"Meanwhile, one transferable skill from being in the cockpit is that the work is characterised by standard operating procedures - which means you have to know your job, learn it quickly, and work with a number of different colleagues all of the time."

Mr Nemirovsky adds that he has no plans to go back to being a pilot when the pandemic finally ends.

Another former pilot who says that the skills he learned in the cockpit helped him with his new job is Waylon Parker, who previously flew for Australia's Qantas Airways. Since September he has been driving giant trucks at a gold mine in the middle of the Outback.

"Managing your energy, driving a large vehicle, and a lot of the safety processes, are very similar to those that we have in aviation," says the 41-year-old. "Compared with other people who just joined the company, I clearly have an advantage with my experience."

While Mr Parker is very grateful for the opportunity, he says it is a lot of hard work and very long hours. In addition, the mining camp in Western Australia's Pilbara region is hundreds of miles from the nearest small town, which can make it very isolating.

His passion for flying remains, and to keep that going he has a side business in which he and a business partner do aerobatic flights on an ex-military aircraft from the 1970s.

Mr Parker also hopes to be able to return to flying passenger aircraft when the pandemic finally ends. "I will return to commercial flying as soon as I possibly can," he says.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to get into mining and I have met so many amazing lifelong friends at the mine but flying is my passion, and my first love, and I miss it terribly."

Mr Bailey also hopes to return to being a pilot, but wonders if that might not happen. "I miss flying very much indeed. [But] there is a chance that by the time this is over, we could be considered as having too much skill fade to ever return to flying."

The Air Force Academy is the premiere training institute for the Indian Air Force. Back in his hometown, Lucknow, Mudit prepares to say goodbye and leave for his training Since I am leaving for 6 months, I just want to spend my maximum time with my family. They will be coming with me till Lucknow airport and I will be on the journey to the new world. I am going to miss them but this is a question of making my future. I have not packed any special thing. Just my mother has made some laddoos for me and some special sweets. Rest are all the things that are mentioned in the joining instructions that I have been packing. Except this I am not carrying anything extra. From here on, for Mudit, the nation and his duty come first. I was thinking I won’t get much emotional when I will leave my parents at the airport. Okay, I anticipated this but it wasn’t like that. I got a bit emotional when I saw my mom was crying. I was thinking I will be seeing them after a long time. We convert them from a civilian to an Air Warrior. And if someone wants to become a fighter pilot, the most important aspect is discipline, integrity, confidence, courage. All these qualities are imbibed into them in this one year. We have a motto called - Shram se Siddhi whatever you want to achieve, it can only be achieved with hardwork. The transformation for the cadets is not easy. Especially since they enter the Academy from varied backgrounds. First up are the Ex-NDA cadets who have completed 3-year training at the National Defence Academy They enter straight into the first stage of flying. Meanwhile civilians enter the Academy either through Combined Defence Services Examination or the Air Force Common Admission Test. And they need to put in an additional 6 months to match up with their NDA counterparts. Something that Priya, Amogh and Kartik have already done and Mudit is gearing up for. When my flight was about to land, I saw the academy from the top. It gave me a goosebump in that very moment. I just wanted to reach the academy as soon as I can. I have to report at Secunderabad Railway Station. At the reception cell of Air Force Academy. I met with other cadets who have come from different parts of India. The academy is bit far from the place we all reported that is at Secunderabad Station. We were just waiting to reach. We were counting the kilometres on the road like Air Force Academy is 7 kilometres, 6 kilometres Before joining the Air Force, I always felt like if I would be able to do this But everything changed once I joined the academy. And finally when I saw the entrance of academy I just felt like a dream come true moment. I was getting so nervous. When I reached academy I saw different missiles which were kept there. The different model planes or actual size planes which were in between, It was all fascinating. There were many hoardings. This particular hoarding which keeps coming into my mind which said It's your job to keep meeting targets, and our job is to nail down the enemy. We had to follow the complete procedure Complete security checking was done and after that we had to submit our mobile phones. We were not allowed to keep our mobile phones. And in my opinion this is very good because your focus stays only on your work, When I back home, even then I didn't use my phone because my life seemed good without it. Patience is the most important aspect over here There are 97 candidates in total and documentation is going to take a lot of time. I was observing everything very carefully. How are the senior interacting with everyone What is their rank! What are they talking about How they are behaving with fellow officers I was observing everything that was happening there. After that I underwent a small medical test where my height and weight was measured In January 1982 I had entered this Air Force Academy as a cadet for the first time. And in June 1991 I came back again as an instructor And I am commandment since December 2016. So I have seen the academy growing in front of my eyes. And I have seen the various aspects of life. And to be truthful even I was scared when I came here for the first time. During my starting days at academy, it was a cultural shock for me. All my luxurious things were taken away from me. And we were told to live a very simple life My first day in academy was very confusing Because I couldn't figure out where to go what to do I was so confused Every new cadet is nervous and tensed in the beginning But as an instructor Its our job apart from being strict and disciplined we even make them feel comfortable.

There are men and women who dream of serving the nation… and then there are those who train for it. Walking an air warrior's path is not an easy task. From training ground to the battlefield... every moment is filled with struggle that, only those with a sharp acumen, integrity and a strong will can survive. Every year, the Air Force Academy witnesses the successes and failures of outstanding young men and women as they strive to become officers worthy of the Indian Air Force. This is Indian Air Force Academy At the Air Force Academy, it has only been two days for Mudit in Stage 0 Pre Flying Training The level of difficulty is another level What we want to do with these cadets is that their mind and body are in unison Earning the blue uniform is not going to be easy. Priya in Stage 1 flying has cleared her preliminary tests and... ...graduates to the simulator. they will go to the aircraft and fly their first sortie... ...only after they have cleared a test on ground. Amogh in Stage 2 has completed ground training of flying and ... ...gets ready for his first dual sortie in a new aircraft. And Kartik is undergoing rigorous flying in Stage 2 to make up for lost time. (I thought this kid will not be able to fly again.) Kartik, Amogh, Priya and Mudit. Their dream of a career in the Indian Air Force ... ...hinges on their successfully completing the challenges that lay ahead…at the Air Force Academy. The sun isn’t even up but the Academy is up and running. The freshers, Stage 0 Cadets, fall in at the grounds for the morning outdoor training. Mudit’s physical toughening has begun. There are 20 different set of grueling exercises in a span of 2 hours without a minute’s break. Mudit needs to meet the high standards of training... or else he’ll be sent back home. Obviously I like outdoor activities, as well. But, here the level of difficulty is another level. once your body is subject to a rigorous of workout, your body will start behaving differently and your mind will start behaving differently. What we want to do with these cadets is that their mind and body are in unison. It is very difficult for us to make a cadet and candidate from unphysical standard to a physical standard. Whether its extremely cold or scorching hot , the outdoor training continues irrespective of the weather conditions; and for the cadets, irrespective of their gender. I was six years old when I chose this as my dream. I was overweight as a kid in school. So, I knew in order to pursue my dream I had to be fit. So, I started running, I started playing squash, I started playing tennis. And I made myself fit to the point that I get selected in the Air force academy on the basis of my sports background. I have prepared myself well enough and I hope I won’t get too intimidated and I will be able to perform to the best of my abilities. In 2 months, 3 months, 6 months, they will be the perfect cadets. After that we will just polish them up to graduate from the Academy Relentless training is what it will take for Mudit to undergo a successful transformation from a raw civilian to a cadet. It is tough. It is testing. From outdoor training to the next class, we have time of about 30 minutes. So, that time we have to come back from the stadium out here, and then go change, take bath and then go to the breakfast. The life of here is very fast. You might not have understood the value of 1 minute in civil life. But, you will understand here. If we have 1 minute, it means you have 60 seconds, which means you can at least do 2 activities in that. We don’t have much time to spare on our personal work, so we have to manage it out from somewhere Now I have my breakfast in only 2 or 3 minutes. While the cadets are busy nourishing themselves, Mudit is distracted. The men in blues walk in. It’s the uniform Mudit has a keen eye on. The freshers, stage 0 cadets are given 10 minutes to finish their breakfast, before they have to fall in and leave for academic classes. But wherever they go, the cadets cannot walk. we have standing orders, for juniors, that we cannot walk in the corridor. We have to run. The “run” order has to be followed by the freshers for the entire 6 months of this stage. The cadets cannot be found standing idly or even walking in the corridors. And if they do, they have to bear the consequences. The seniors introduce them to the concept of Ragda. terminology which is used is Ragda, is basically, it’s a colloquial word . which means physical toughening is done at flight cadet’s mess authorized one I got punished. And I know that punishment here is enjoyable but still, nobody wants to get punished. I had my share of punishment in my junior term. I missed on my haircut and I had to run 8kms with a rucksack and combat dress with 20 kgs on my shoulder. I just missed the timing by 2 or 3 odd minutes. So, when Murgi, you have to lower your bumsAnd then they asked us to get Murga and Murgi, both. So, when Murgi, you have to lower your bums and when Murga, you have to raise your bums. And then you have to do it on counting. One is down, two is up – Murga – Murgi. And when you start doing, you feel tremendous pain in your thigh. From that day till now I have never got late for any of the activity.

While the entire flight cadet’s mess is observing the study period, Mudit and his colleagues of Katre Squadron have gathered... to receive an important instruction from their seniors. This fallen is for briefing the cadets. There is going to be deputy commandant cabin inspection. These brown sheets are issued to cadets for arranging their cabins. So they are getting 45 minutes to clean their cupboards and apply these brown sheets. The cabin inspection will be done by squadron commander ... ...and after that it will be done by deputy commandant... ...and finally, it will be done by commandant. For that, we need to maintain our cabins in best shape. My seniors have taught me how the room has to be kept and I am working on it. We have a birthday of my coursemate who is in my sqaudron. His name is Siddharth Malik. And as per the tradition, we are going to celebrate his birthday today. At the Air Force Academy even birthday’s are celebrated within a specified time period. The cake is there. The ice creams have to sponsored by the birthday boy. And then we do some dare kind of things given by the best friend of his. Then they did 23 push ups for me. So it was a gift from them. We don’t believe in wasting food here. It’s enjoyable. You do what you do with your coursemates. That’s the beauty of it. Birthday boy has some privileges as well. He is exempted from every fallen every punishment. He just has to say it’s his birthday. He will ask to just go to his cabin and relax. At the Air Force Academy, after the study period the night muster begins. I primarily tell them what their next day will be like. . Apart from that, if they have any problem or if there is any requirement I have to listen to them. So this night muster is the final roll call of the cadets before they go for the dinner... ...and subsequently they off to sleep. After receiving instructions for the next day, the cadets disperse to the dinning hall for dinner. This event has air of formality to it. So when the cadets arrive, they come from different background. This mess takes the responsibility with the help of seniors ... ...to teach them or coach them what the table manners... ...and what fork and knife is all about. The mess etiquette is the most important and interesting thing out here. Because I have never used that kind of etiquette to eating. There are the sections of the plate where you have to put certain things... ...like rice can be put only on one spot, ... salad has to be there at a fixed spot. And and you have to keep your fork and spoon in a particular manner... ...to show whether plate is open or close. As per military etiquette... ...if the fork and knife is kept in a cross state,... ...there is indication to the waiter without speaking to him that I am continuing with my meal. There are some certain code that you need to follow. Whenever you have to sit you need to ask permission from senior sitting beside you. You have lot of things to do. You have to be alert all the time. When the meal is finished, fork and knife has to be places parallel on the plate. This is the indication that I have finished my meal, please clear my plate. While leaving, you have to ask for the permission. After then only you are allowed to close your plate... and leave from the right of the chair. Dinner is so formal that Mudit has to unlearn his civilian ways. Now it’s time for Mudit to call it a day ... ...and the lights go off strictly at 2200 hours. Another demanding day at the Academy comes to an end. Mudit is trying his best to fit it. Priya and Amogh are applying themselves wholly to turn their dreams into reality. The thoughts of not being able to pass out on this term are playing on Kartik’s mind. The journey will only get tougher. But when the going gets tough, the cadets get going… ...every day and night getting closer to their dreams with each lights out.

As we all know the merchant navy is one of the most sought after careers in the world mainly because of the lucrative salary it provides. It is a difficult career option to pursue, both physically and mentally, and that is probably the main reason people are paid well in this field. Now we all know that you are interested in knowing how much does one earns in merchant navy? To answer this question, we will ask you to first watch our video on all the ranks in merchant navy along with their duties. This will help you understand the salary structure better It is to note that the exact answer on how much a maritime professional will earn depends on several factors such as Also, generally a freshly promoted 2nd engineer will earn less than a 2nd engineer who has sailed for more than 2-3 ships. Many companies provide additional benefits to loyal seafarers. Hence, a 3rd engineer who has been with a particular company for a long time may earn more than a freshly recruited 3rd engineer having more experience As mentioned earlier, though Merchant Navy is famous for offering attractive salaries to professional, a lot differs from country to country and company to company To give a general overview of how much an average seafarer earns, we will consider average salaries of seafarers across various departments and ranks. Do note that the seafarers are usually hired on a contractual basis, i.e. they are not hired as a permanent employee and the company will pay the seafarer on a monthly basis till the contract is over. Hence, the salary details provided in this video are on a monthly basis and not yearly. Also, the salary range will vary depending upon the nationality of the seafarer. For e.g. the person residing in an Asian Country will usually have a lesser salary as compared to that in most of the european countries. If you are joining a company which owns the ship, you maybe able to negotiate a higher salary when compared to a ship management company as the owner allots budget for the whole ship operation to the management company, including the salary of the crew, and the management company has to run the ship in the provided budget Following is the average range of salaries in USD ($) for those seafarers who have freshly joined the position: Average Salaries for Asian/ European or US Seafarers for Dry ships which includes container, bulk carrier, and roro ships are as follows Average Salaries for Asian/ European/ and US Seafarers for tanker ships which include oil, Chemical, and LNG carrier are as follows The salary of an Ordinary Seaman, wiper, Able Seaman catering department is almost similar to a dry ship. The Seafarer sailing in gas carrier ships Will have salary range on the higher side Please do note that the salary range will further go down if the company provides round the year wages i.e. both when onboard and when on land.

Hello Everybody, welcome back to another Ship's Vlog. This VLOG is little bit different from my other regular vlogs. I have been getting lot of questions in the comment section regarding the life onboard, what is the duty and resposibility of a DECK OFFICER? And lot of other shipping related queries . So i thought it would be nice to consolidate all the answers in a vlog and show it to you guys. I will be shooting this vlog in our recreational room, Where we gather for some small parties and some small gatherings.. I will show you around.. So we have a couch over here, Actually our recreational room is under renovation as we have recently received some new equipment such as we received a new television, play station, some games. So we will be installing our television over here. So in this Vlog, we will be discussing all the questions that you guys have been asking in the comment section. and I have gathered lot of information from multiple sources and what i know about shipping and i will try to answer all the shipping related queries that you guys have. I hope that you will find this vlog informative. First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Ojus Rawat. and I am sailing as a 2nd Mate(Second Officer) onboard Born and brought up in Kotdwara Uttarakhand. Its a small city in Northern part of India near the Himalayas. I did my schooling in Kotdwara. After i passed my 12th with PCM i gave this IGNOU CET exam. Now a days it is conducted under IMU CET. In our time it was IGNOU CET. I cleared the exam IGNOU CET for the DNS Course that is one year diploma in Nautical Science. And got a decent percentile. And then i got selected for TS Chanakya. Which is a Maritime College in Navi Mumbai. 1 year in TS Chanakya was a bag full of adventure and surprises for me. Because first time i was living in a big city and we had batchmates from different parts of the Country. So it was really a mix up of adventure i can say. And in the 2nd Semester of my college i got placed. And i was fortunate enough to get placed. Why fortunate? that i will tell you in later part of video. After completing my 1 year DNS Course in TS Chanakya, I did all the mandatory STWC courses. Then i applied for my CDC(Continuous Discharge Certificate) When I received my CDC, then i reported to the office They allotted me a ship and my joining was from port Talbot UK. So i was ready to join my first ship. My first ship was a Cape size Bulk Carrier. For my first joining i flew from Delhi to UK. And the joining process was pretty smooth. Even though i was joining a ship for the first time. But we had around 5 crew members all together we were joining the ship including 2 Engineers. For me it was a different experience because first time i was flying abroad. But everything went smooth. First Ship guys was a total roller coaster for me because during your college you read about everything theoretically , but when you are actually on at the location, on that ship you are practically seeing everything going around you. So your mind goes like [Confused] Anyhow, with the help of my seniors and good mentors i had nice senior officers. They taught me well and i managed to get familiarized myself with ship board operations. I did total of 2 ships in my training period. The Mandatory period was 18 months as sea time. I did that in 2 ships (2 contracts). After completing my required sea time i went for my 2nd Mate's preparatory courses. And all the courses, exams, whether it was written/oral I did from Delhi. After doing this in Dec 2013 I cleared my exams. My Second mate exams. And in Jan 2014 i applied for my COC(certificate of competency) I received my COC in march 2014. And i was fortunate enough that within a week i was onboard as a junior officer. So I joined this time the ship was a VLOC(Very Large Ore Carriers) and the voyage was from Brazil to China. We were loading Iron Ore in Brazil and discharging it in China. I joined as a 4th Officer. As a Junior officer. And then for 2.5 months i sailed as a junior officer. After 2.5 months onboard, i got promoted as 3rd Mate (3rd Officer). And i did i think 4-4.5 months more on that Ship. So after total of 7.5 months of contract i got down from that Ship and after that I did 2 more contracts as a 3rd Mate. before i got promoted as a 2nd Mate. In 2016, i already did 3 contracts as a 3rd Mate and I was ready for promotion. Office already approved my promotion. In 2016, i also got married in Oct 2016. My wife's name is Shilpa. She is a Software Engineer by profession. And right now both of us are living in Bangalore. In 2017, i got promoted as a 2nd Mate(2nd Officer). And after that, right now this is my 3rd contract as a 2nd Mate. In between I took around 11 months of break just to give all my Chief Mate preparatory classes and exams. Which is still under process. I have not cleared it yet. So lets discuss about the important topic regarding which i have been getting lot of questions in the comment section, that how is the life onboard? Duty and Responsibility as a deck officer? What are the salaries of different ranks? So before telling you the salaries and other things I will just give you a brief idea how is the situation onboard. You know what all ranks we have onboard and what all departments we have. So, on the Ship, on a merchant vessel, on a generalized merchant vessel, we have total of 3 departments: Deck department, Engine and Catering. So DECK department consists of Deck Ratings, Deck Officers and Captain. In Engine department we have Engine Ratings, Engineers and Chief Engineer. And in Catering we have Chief Cook and Messman. These are the major departments we have onboard a Merchant Vessel. Now coming to Salary. Salary on a Merchant Vessel for different ranks depends upon various factors. Such as what Shipping Company you are sailing on. The type of Vessel you are sailing on. Lets say if you are on a Oil-Tanker or a Chemical Tanker or on a Gas Carrier, your salary will be comparatively higher than the same rank which is getting in Bulk Carrier or a general cargo ship. Then, other thing is your Nationality. Your experience, your time in the rank. How much experience you have on the same rank. So these are the various factors that determine how much salary you will get at a certain rank. Salary of a deck officer, 3rd Mate , 2nd Mate, Cadet So i have asked lot of my batch mates . Those who are in different Companies and sailing on different kind of ships And i have summarized a range of salary. It cannot be exact number because like I said that salary differs from Shipping company and also depends upon your Rank. So i have summarized a Salary range of 3rd Mate, 2nd Mate, Chief Mate and Captain. Firstly let me clarify the figure of salary which i am going to tell you is a range which i got by asking a lot of my batch mates. Those who are sailing on different companies and different kind of ships. So exact number cannot be determined because salary differs from shipping company and also differs according to your experience in that rank. So I have created a range and you can expect your salary , like if you will be joining as a 3rd Mate or 2nd Mate, you can expect your salary within that range. So as a 3rd Mate on board you can expect your salary to be in range scale between 2600$ to 3600$ per month. Like I said, it differs from Shipping company to shipping company and also in your experience in the rank. For a 2nd Mate, you can expect somewhere around 3800$ to 4800$. As a Chief Mate now once you become a senior officer , a management level officer A Chief mate or a Captain, then the salary range scale is very vast. Because the chief mate on a Bulk Carrier and a Chief mate on a Oil Tanker will be getting different kind of salary. So lets say if I comprise the Chief Mate salary would be around 6500$ to 9000$. And it can be more. It depends upon the type of Ship you are sailing and your shipping company. For Master(Captain), I would say the salary would lie between the range of 9000$ to 12000$ per month!! And ofcourse it might differ also. So now lot of guys are asking question to me that how much I am getting as a Deck Officer onboard. As a Deck Cadet onboard, my salary was between 700$ - 750$ . When i was promoted to 3rd Mate , my salary was between 3300$ to 3600$ . And then when i became 2nd Mate, my salary was in between 4400$ to 4800$. So, like i said it differs by contract to contract because you gain experience and your salary will also increase. The increment in your salary depends upon the experience in the rank. So lets say if a 2nd mate is sailing in his first contract and a 2nd mate is sailing on his 5th contract so the guy who is sailing on his 5th contract surely will be getting a higher salary comparative to the guy who is sailing on the first contract. So that how shipping works. Lets talk about some more important topics which as an individual I felt that i should discuss with you guys and also i will discuss some of my mistakes which i made so that you can learn form my mistakes. All the merchant navy aspirants those who are planning to start your career at sea and join shipping , my suggestion will be , my strong recommendation will be please get a sponsorship. Sponsorship is very important now a days because you know the shipping is all about demand and supply. We have lot of maritime training institutes in India. So you can imagine every year how many deck cadets and how many engine cadets are passing out from the institute. Lot of jobs option are there but sometimes in shipping you will find there is a drop in the vacancy . So lets say you passed out from a college but you don't have placement , you don't have sponsorship. It will become very difficult Trust me guys, its very difficult to find a shipping company and to start a career. So from my point of view , if you take my recommendation, get a sponsorship. Now a days , this exam is conducted by IMU (Indian Maritime University) CET (Common Entrance Test) . So, together with the IMUCET , you can look for the companies who are providing the sponsorship. Specially there are some of the companies who are providing sponsorship and they will train you in their own training institute. So once you have sponsorship, your job is guaranteed. So lets say, in my case i enrolled myself for a Maritime Institute but i was not sponsored in the first case itself. So what happened, i was fortunate enough that i got placed in my second semester. Because if you don't get placed guys then you have to roam around at every doorstep of shipping companies for searching for job. And trust me guys i experienced some of my batch mates those who were not placed during the college time . and they were still searching for the ships . Till the time when i already completed my cadetship. Second thing guys is plan your finance as soon as you start earning. You might be hearing this from your elders as well but as a seafarer, as a deck officer i will advise you to plan your finance as soon as you start earning even as a deck cadet. The salary in merchant navy is very lucrative. My suggestion is just imagine that whatever you are earning in 7-8 months lets say, your contract for a year is 7 months, so whatever you are earning in 7 months, you have to suffice it for full year duration. Because in merchant navy guys we are not getting paycheck every month. We are getting paycheck only when we are onboard. So you have to maintain you have to suffice that money for the full year duration. So , if you plan your finances well, you have lot of savings guys , it will definitely help you in long run. My suggestion is do take a term plan at early stage of your career when you are young. When you are junior officer, even as a cadet. Take a term plan because at that time installment will be pretty less. And don't go for go for that conventional insurance scheme we have. Take a term plan and if you start at an early age your monthly installment will be pretty less. Second thing guys is that you can start investing in mutual funds. Its really simple and you can get lot of information about mutual fund online and it is in a longer run guys it is really beneficial. Another suggestion from my side is as a junior officer as soon as you complete your sea time. Your required sea time for the next rank. Go for your exams guys. Don't wait unless and untill you have some emergency or you have some urgent commitments at home. Go for your exams. At least do the courses. And you can slowly gradually prepare for exams and give it later, but once you finish your required sea time guys give your exams. Because this will help you to progress in your career faster. Salary difference guys as a second mate as a third mate and as a chief mate the salary difference is huge. So imagine as soon as you become chief mate you will start earning more. So that is one of the mistake i did. So that is all for now I hope I covered all the question that you guys have been asking in the comments. And if I missed out something, do write in the comment section below and I will definitely include in my next vlog. For all the shipping aspirants please check out my other vlogs and you will have a glimpse of life onboard . Let me know in the comment section guys if you find this informative. Please like, share and subscribe to my channel for more shipping related vlog . I will see you in the next vlog till then be safe and take good care of yourself.

     NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY (NDA)

Life At National Defence Academy (NDA) the drums of Destiny as a few good men marshal on the rest of mankind watches in absolute awe they are the men of honor fearless and word pride in their hearts these are the men India feels proud of welcome to the world of brave hearts and our compliments to one such finest gentlemen welcome to Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma klodin leader Rakesh Sharma Cyril Rajskub hang up Katara face he bunts a product Catholics tie up a few things get together country started to have their cup Absa Premiership prom night day him where the mind is without fear and the head is held high Rabindranath Tagore I'd read these lines very early when I was a kid didn't fully understand the import till much later finds her I was looking for a career that was challenging adventurous exciting with a bit of ism something with honour where I would be able to add value to the organization I was working for and during the process realized my own potential now which would be a career which would offer me all of this I looked here and there and suddenly I found it welcome to the world of men who deserve the best and they deserve the best simply because they are the best National Defense Academy the world looks at it as one of the best places that creates men of honor an institution that has laid the highest standards of qualifying promising immense satisfaction to the cadets and prizes to be won the National Defense Academy is a unique tri-service premiere establishment which trains leaders of Armed Forces who have been at the helm both in India and abroad it has spanned over 7,000 acres and this provides the salubrious environment to train the cadets of the Armed Forces in a multi various spectrum of activities the unique thing about the academy is that cadets from the Army the Navy and the Air Force trained jointly for three whole years with no differentiation whatsoever in terms of the training they do except of course in the fifth and sixth terms when the focus rightly shifts to service training this is the kind of model which was conceived 60 years ago when buzzwords like jointless were not so well known and the fact that our founding fathers of this Academy could think of all this 60 years ago it's really a great tribute to their vision and foresight today is the great day of convocation of one of the toughest professional courses the world has known what is a possible parade and we've worked day in and day out for it each cadet has tried to hone a skill to the extent possible and the standard of drill in the Academy is truly high and it inculcates in us a sense of pride in our uniform smartness negate military bearing and of course obvious to the orders given and I hope that the exacting standards are displayed in the parade that we present in front of the parents guests and the entire career and as the chief guest arrives to see the bright young men crossed the untempered the last step which transforms them from a student to an officer will have to go back a little in time to see how it all started three years ago first Bella well nervous don't be so sure you'll soon discover friends around and believe me you will have loads of fun and the guys on the other side of the table are not that monstrous either they could perhaps sound a little critical at times but remember if you'll ever need help support and protection you should have no hesitation to run to them so get into the world of real competition valor and adventure surprise surprise don't you think if you deserve the very best you need to sacrifice a little welcome home buddy now I feel B I think now I'm looking quite more smart no hair so no oil require no home require no may require I'm looking like greeting ocean of blood cell numbers on the proud chests and as you become a part of a squadron but it's not simple to value the true meaning of being a part of a squadron meanwhile far away from home in the midst of so many unknowns life back home calls out the yellow painted room the window by the mango tree the dusty roads leading to the courtyard the village ma papa all everyone now they look so distant carry on dough rolls lobby for us immediately and all that remains vivid and overwhelmed is your newfound hope and your new relations as they call out Eagles and hunters and alphas and Bravo's the squadron's squadron just a word perhaps but for everyone else touched by its spirit squadron signifies the heart that builds the very existence the awareness that tutors the values of life a treasure that makes a cadet richer than the richest a jewel that grows in the soul and shines through the actions forever live stuff in here but here's where one learns to live here's where you make friends compete and learn the art of true sportsman spirit and this is something the cadets are allowed to take away home as a keepsake Spartan is only a big doors for us it is only the real motivation this is what squad life is all about but try telling that to a person who is pulled out of his comfort zone from home and comes here and on the very first day he loses his identity when he goes for his first haircut and then stands in front of the mirror look at his expression unforgettable and then he goes through the day catching his breath trying to cope with the physical and mental demands placed on him and towards the end of the day he somehow drags himself into bed and crashes like a sack of potatoes he asks himself is this pleasurable and then realizes the satisfaction of having gone through this day he goes to bed ready for another day at the end da you want to understand this come that's the morning call the frail little sips of the hot tea out of the plastic mugs refer to no luxury it's just the beginning of another hard-pressed day such little firm directives also serve another purpose it reminds the young cadets to keep their home in their hearts and experience the world in a way they have never done before everyone out here is a little Prince out of this kingdom ready to explore the world mark every word that each one of them repeats honesty sincerity promise are these words carrying any meaning to these kids the necessity of the words and the regulations they'll have little meaning perhaps now for the young men but these words and the discipline will get embedded in their hearts something which will become a part of their very system inch by inch these guys are made to toil put to test where they get to know who they are they get to know their strengths they will command and the character we all desire so much the instructions are harsh but willingly they follow now let's take a break it's time for breakfast as the kitchen gears up for 1,800 breakfasts it smells fantastic but that's usual and regular at NBA and the list of five courses has little impact on the expert hands at the kitchen they are oriented in serving 1800 cadets at the dining hall together three times every day battle all the way to Solaria Square and you reach a spot that remains busy around with hundreds of cycles all round the day and whoever has visited NBA is familiar with such a sight National Defense Academy the seat for the joint Services Academy of the Army Navy and Air Force an Academy which serves as the training facility for the cadets of all the three defense services of India where they are skilled to get holistically equipped with the necessary lessons before going for the next level in their respective areas of expertise the classrooms of the Academy are so impressive yet some of the most important lessons are learnt outside of it some of the lessons so invariably significant for the overall advancement of an individual and essential for future army officers are found only at the National Defense Academy apart from that they are also taught and trained in the fundamental military sciences for the first two years out of the three the cadets are trained together the third year gives them an opportunity to study the service they have already selected Army Navy or Air Force National Defense Academy boasts of the best from the teaching fraternity it is a responsibility which the teachers here at NDA discharge with complete dedication upholding the highest professional and teaching ethics sitting in this classroom brings back a flood of memories and I must say that not all of them are pleasant the education system at the National Defense Academy has captured the very essence of the ancient philosophy of education in India by following the Gurukul system and perhaps that is why it has been able to churn out such responsible individuals over the years the professor's here focus not only on producing great professionals but also good human beings this is not an easy task to handle and churn out 1800 cadets year on year they have a special gift not only do they know how to teach but they also impart knowledge not only impart knowledge but also the knowledge and how to use that knowledge for the realization of their military aims in their work sphere after lunch a cadet is allowed a timeout with himself but that is spent on his homework under the watchful eyes of the directing staff and senior cadets the evening starts with physical exercise strength a healthy body and a healthy mind is a unique combination to rarely got but widely spoken off probably there is little understanding about how much goes into bringing out such a rare combination into a reality of course at NDA it is as normal as breathing just as education is a solid foundation for what a person becomes so is knowing how to have a good time on the ground character is primarily defined with two things education and personality remember all work and no play makes one a dull boy when you reach the water you will feel one more jump that self I will do one more jump every time it's like this firstly you having heart rate anywhere just a Kimmage formula TS yeah a tiny a quick because Victor automatically detected a word you're allowing your simply by jacket indicating salame amazingly I have got a total transformation in my body or a select Amano every muscle of embodied miracle steel on the guys can conquer anything and everything and Giannini meant a physical strength is south-south my mental strength the coffee buddy and the only truth or the secret behind the workouts at India you can say is that we guys are pushed notch by notch to discover the deeper as of all of a strength within us National Defence Academy a stage to liberate fear a podium to hold closely to the heart the unstoppable spirit of being fearless and of course equestrian the Indian army has produced many a legendary Horseman who has made India proud the wonderful beast has always been regarded as a military man's best friend and there's a horse's prayer which every man in uniform believes and respects going up the hill with me not going down the hill hurry me not when angry strike me not when sick and dying leave me not and when dead forget me not not birds but blaring horns not disciplined military men but curious city folk not the National Defense Academy but any nice civil spot of course the men in uniform do get to relax after all weekends are fun and group excursions ending and diving right into the middle of city life is something that's rather not uncommon it also looks like a quest for an oasis a modern depiction of Lawrence of Arabia as the young elegant men walked through the city and city malls curious faces look back a rare sense of respect for the Academy and its products while the cadets quite oblivious of such attention carry on the pride of being from nd a cannot be missed the cadets then start their final year in this wonderful institution the National Defense Academy by now each of them has chosen the service they would be wanting to join and this is based on their interest and aptitude on the other side training teams are waiting to receive these cadets and impart to them training specific to the chosen service be it the Army Navy or the Air Force in their sixth term cadets are exposed to specialized service training and skills which they are required to learn in order to become commissioned officers in their respective service thus as the young affiliates eager to fly queue up for gaining the much-needed familiarity with their airplanes the rest divided and gear up for training for their areas of expertise on the surface of the water or on the land the specialized service training for Air Force cadets is imparted by an expert team all Air Force cadets undergo practical training of gliding AF TT is fully equipped to provide about eight hours of flying experience to each Air Force cadet before he joins the Air Force Academy training under the Air Force training team is an awesome experience the cadets are taught the basics of aerodynamics gliding meteorology airframes and armaments and of course the much-coveted instructions in developing motor skills but today we did acrylics for the first time and was just amazing feeling I was feeling that flying is really very very big fun I felt that you're opting for fighters is still better seeing such I don't think so such adventure anyone would get anyway army training team takes care of the army cadets the specialized service training for army cadets is imparted by this team the cadets are taught section level tactics and basics of war like patrolling ambush and map reading the specialized service training for naval cadets is imparted by Naval Training team all naval cadets undergo practical training of saving at peacock Bay which is fully equipped to train naval cadets on all the aspects of boat handling wind surfing rowing and other related areas the Silence of the night is almost deafening as the imposing structure of National Defence Academy puts its feet up the cadets gear up it's time for camp tour now the team-building exercise will probably nowhere be as effectively and meticulously planned as it is in this case the motivation with which one must proceed should put one and all the members of the squad in queue and thus for one last time together shoulder to shoulder the cadets go on for one final test of strength before they separate out to their chosen field of training in this great art this is the great moment of brotherhood of true friendship that will keep the cadets motivated throughout their lives every weapon is checked loaded and checked the fearless youngsters and the we ARS get ready to march on clad in war outfits with a full Kitty intact on their backs the brave hearts indeed look commissioned already the excitement of the youthful cheer is vivid on their faces one final call and they are there already and weighing the cadets take a few final tips and off they go to the campsite the officers accompanying the young turks briefed them keeping one and all alert of enemy attacks it could be a mock war but the cadets are not on a pleasure trip and it's certainly not fun and they need to take every move critically each of the cadets takes turns to take a glimpse of the topography sketched out on a map and plan out their strategic decisions as the only time they would counter such a situation ever in their lives again would be when they will be in real battle in the process natural leaders emerge meanwhile the plebs that Air Force training base are geared up for exercise Garuda air boys get first-hand knowledge about air station procedures and the functioning of one of the world's most sophisticated fighter planes to fly the incredibly splendid sukhoi becomes every cadet dream tokyo to craft a u- s aircraft and nice in the meantime naval cadets are learning the lessons very well exercise Varuna as it is called is a foolproof conditioning camp that brings the cadets closer to reality the captain and NDA graduate probably knows best what could be in the minds of his young friends all the questions possibly he'd have otherwise shared with his master if he were a cadet with us understood their unspoken and answered voluntarily but his intuition was right each time all the way does onboard I&S vinegary of the mumbai coast the cadets exert firm effort at the bridge assignment and go through the process of becoming skilled at the decisive drills of front-line ships does in I NS vinegary cadets get a real feel of the various operations and processes that go into mastering a ship at high seas they become familiar with the duties they are supposed to shoulder in the years to come as the boat flies down over the deep blue sea the cadets get ready for lights Jack's day operation make no mistake it's not as simple as it might look getting transported over the rough sea hanging loosely from the cables could possibly be a little scary and not all fun no doubt it's adventure that a sailor so much should love or else he becomes no sailor the sailor's life is nevertheless intricate which requires perhaps a little bit of extra effort to keep the patience and smile intact that is a necessity by the time it reaches its close the cadets are already experienced in close-range anti-aircraft gum multiple silos for launching anti-submarine torpedoes and so many other things what else nothing more just load the magazines and fire of belt of bullets from the machine the touch of a weapon the truth the faces reflected all at the academy we keep pushing a carrot to achieve higher and higher heights the sky's the limit as far as their limits go moment we increase the bar the carrot achieves that bar so we make him realize that there is a potential in him and he can achieve whatever he wants to in life a complete rush in the air in the quiet of the night a patrol party is on the moon as they grab each run forward it appears as of even the leaves have been asked to hold their breath lest someone should know and while like a ghost they shift their every move every breath is being watched and then in no time the patrol party vanishes and the thin air well but this ambush was only a part of a drill exercise and now it's time for Fateh before a sport of cadets dressed in full war uniforms get ready to dig up their first taste of real battle situation their commander makes clear to the boys the complexities of weapon deployment it seems he has more than a pair of eyes though cadets avidly compete against each other to reach and be in charge of their positions while the section commander and army cadet makes a detailed report to the inspection officer the rest of them gear up for further orders it's that time when a cadet stands all alone in the middle of it all it's his belief his self-reliance and ability to stay put that will do the trick the stage is set the surround sound effect of advancing of wall vehicles shift all present to a world not quite familiar it's a world not too many would ever get to see or else the ones who will see will not ever think they would want to observe it again it's a glimpse of a world they'll not desire old men in uniform probably know the meaning of peace more than we do sitting happy in our little cozy corners but they know very well that if you want peace be prepared for war Valspar from the maddening crowd on the other side of the hills what happens is difficult to describe it is to be witnessed armored tank formation moves in machine guns raw fierce battle explodes but every soul of the Indian Armed Forces needs to be strong and brave to defend their feasts at home and thus learn every nuance of war does cadets from all the three services observe in absolute or from close quarters a demonstrative attack by an infantry company on an NDA platoon defending a heli terrain and silently watched to learn a semi controlled battle exercise codenamed Fateh as regular soldiers of the army advance NDA cadets descend from their positions to partake an opportunity to demonstrate their strategic skills it's the last time the young lads will be taught and the first time they will learn more than what is taught last time they will spin a web of imaginations the first time they will face the reality and God willing this is the last time they will see a war whatever you have seen just now and you undergone the training and during this camp is the culmination of your army training it NDF all the best and happy hunting after your commissioning thank you Fateh established it's time for the cadets to confirm they still have it in them the Josh to carry on a more than 30 kilometers run back to the India barracks with gear weighing 20 kilograms each on their backs run back Josh run here come on wallet whatever there's going to be you your stamina your endurance your team spirit and everything out here sounds incredible isn't it true the Indian Armed Forces need men who are incredible and no less and this is just another way to know that the men on whom NDA spent so much of hard work indeed deserved so does the men face yet another overwhelming test the Josh run or deal c'mon just keep running like madmen you lose your weight they know you the run is to begin in the dead of the night through the jungles and over the rivers the frigid air replicates the Glacial test and the cold hearts around it seems way too long but that's the fun of it to hold on spaced out energy and reach strong and sprightly it's not a test for fragile hearts feeble health it's for those who know the rhythm of life deep down inside us we hear the chilly voice of the night divided in small groups running through the cold of the night the boys finally make it the boys pull off what looked to them quite impossible even the previous night and they did it as the cadets reached the squadron I heard one of them say to his mates another fine job done by us it's always good to see people who take pride in job well done so this is the spirit which with the cadets leave the National Defense Academy this is the point at which they become integral with the motto which is service before self and this is the spirit which guides them every step of their way through their career a job well done indeed if only we could have given them a warm hug if only we could have told them we are so proud of you weary though fatigue fails to impair their enthusiasm next in line the obstacle test the endurance test might not have looked that terrifying taxing the nerves had it not been preceded by torna Fateh and Josh but that's the order and the exceptionally tough endurance test turns out to be even tougher true endurance test is not finally of something to do with sheer animal vigor this is much more a unique trial to figure out a cadets trust in himself self-discipline moral fiber and fortitude to conquer the insufferable a test that puts the cadet stand right in front of himself see his mirror image and judged by himself whether this is me this is what I'm looking for is this a commitment I'll be able to keep for life rest assured you'll get the answer you're looking for yeah too much grouping is good you Witter good short but the problem is that is not in the bull next time take the point of him here job is well done it's time for a cadet to send a charming goodbye letter to his beloved friend my dear bicycle thank you for being there whenever I needed you you gave me a ride when I desired so much help me get clear air relax and enjoy a wonderful time you were my only comfort I'll remember you always goodbye the measured musical March of bagpipers Academy dinner night can never be complete without the military band whose Tunes make everyone sway from side to side with the notes as the officers and cadets celebrate the prize distribution of inter squadron competitions along with the grand dinner the occasion almost looks like an invocation of a great beginning of something unusual after the party this is an occasion for merriment and thes the ball is set rolling surprisingly the places which are so commonly frequented so very often the faces those are so familiar the Sundown overlooked so simply tonight appear so special so vivid doubtless none hair will ever forget the way all these seem now on their ceiling the NBA ball which is the fallen the landmark happening of Pune with crowning of the NBA queen and mr. NBA and of course much more probably holds a lot more meaning to all the people you see here gathered it's about sharing laughter dancing and jumping in joy maybe for one last time all of them together and does the celebrations will remain incomplete if the Academy and the entire nation do not stand up to salute and express gratefulness to those parents who encourage their children to see a wonderful dream and really made it possible to realize it does today at this very moment standing at the threshold of a great new beginning it remains the utmost duty of each and every cadet to convey his heartfelt gratitude to his parents for encouraging him holding him up and letting him go for what he thought he so much deserved dear dad dear MA thank you so much for everything you were always there when I wanted you to help me guide me through the huff and cry with me you were there to love me and care and yet remained distant when it was so desired near or far the love you share still reached me rain wind lungful of air carried your love to me cuz even when you are not there I felt you were right there with me with your arms stretched out for me whispering in the air some come home does the convocation ceremony will remain incomplete without the presence of the parents it's a time of immense delight for the cadets parents and family members rejoicing every second successful cadets become the recipient of bachelor's degrees in computer science social science or science furthermore cadets with exceptional academic results get medals they will treasure for years the bugle call marks the beginning of the pass out parade and conclusion of a challenge accepted and won it's an occasion where NDA wishes good luck to a group of fine young gentlemen officers it marks the foundation of a new heater a welcome ceremony to the closing of yet another extraordinary chapter of the quest for destiny a few good men would eyes full of Dreams and the extensive expedition that furnished them the grit to be what they are today is an unbelievable story of transformation what we witnessed during the last few minutes from the first step into the NDA campus to the untempered is but the depiction of an incredible journey of a group of fine young boys who learnt to master their own fate thus they cross the untempered proudly with head held high good luck and good bye all's done the cadets ready to sign off are left with one final obligation to fulfill the convocation cannot be complete without a quiet call a call to pay homage to the heroes a homage to battles fought and won a homage to legends the legends of nd a line hearted men who became kings princes and angels by their deeds and immortal in the way they lived and the way they sacrifice their glorious lives for the nation the true spirit of nd a service before self undeniably finds its utmost meaning here is it possible to forget them the ceremonies are over the overwhelming sense of accomplishment is nothing but the manifestation of feeling associated with a fraternity for the first time in a long time their childlike exuberance overflows finding themselves really grown ups and amazing sights to delight you a wonderful occasion to let these boys scream jump and scream yell cry hop skip feel good whatever this is fitting to say boys it's your day goodbye friends keep smiling only because we know that you will be our protectors we will sleep without fear which Potocki odd log persecutor of Jana's are there or I got up became Vasa apne JK Jota or Khushi ugly geography up neighbors organs they up which han chaea possess a cushy melzack kia ora kochava mahogany Aslam a I cannot Chattahoochee jihad the causative just come me how could L just feel inferior we come to him or services cages are come up opening later article do carrier options yay up Camilla we Forge mandolin or belly keeper effort for a judge battle shogi delicate array which personal kindling up go into Zarkana Papa the Commission Chabad Hodge coffee a son who dare to adapt come caretaker pear agar disky save us at Miho tira but it's a orichalcos Santa the National Defence Academy prepares the leaders of tomorrow for a career in the Armed Forces and this career could be in any dimension it could be in the air on the land on the surface of water or indeed under the sea this a cadet could do by choosing a career in the army the Navy or indeed the Air Force a career in the Armed Forces provides a challenge to face the future as well as a spirit of adventure along with a quality of life I would only like to tell the youth of our country that if you have a spirit of adventure and would like a career with a challenge and which provides a quality of life then a future career in the Armed Forces is the career for company one Ziggy or varsity father skater Molly oh yeah it'll be pilots or sardonically pocket they'll get your birthday oh yeah Molly oh joy
